Europe continues its efforts to decarbonize industry to meet the goals of the Paris Agreement, with offshore CO₂ storage under the North Sea gaining momentum as a key solution. A landmark was reached in August, when Northern Lights successfully transported, injected and stored its first CO₂. 2025 has also marked other major milestones: the full-scale carbon capture project at Klemetsrud in Oslo, the completion of Heidelberg Materials’ facility in Brevik, and new bilateral agreements for transport of CO₂ between Norway and France/Switzerland, to name a few.
How close are we to a functioning European value chain for CO₂ capture, transport and storage in Norway? What will it take to scale up Norwegian storage capacity to meet the growing European demand?

Wrapping up
The Board of PF CO₂ Management welcomes you to this fall’s event during Oslo Innovation Week: CCS Pit Stop 2025. This exclusive gathering convenes industry leaders to discuss significant investments, emerging technologies, flagship projects, and strategic partnerships driving the future of carbon capture and storage. Specifically, this event will take stock of the CCS status in and around the North Sea Basin and map the road ahead.
Carbon Capture Champion 2025
Jannicke Gerner Bjerkås was awarded Carbon Capture Champion of the Year 2025 during the spring CCS Pit Stop at the Polytechnical Society, in recognition of her pivotal role in securing a leading carbon capture facility for Oslo. As Director of CCS and Carbon Markets at Hafslund Celsio, Jannicke has been instrumental in driving the development of carbon capture technology, building trust among the public and industry professionals, and navigating the challenges of political shifts and large-scale investments. The award was presented by Astrid Willa Eide Hoem, State Secretary (Labour Party) at the Ministry of Climate and Environment.
